Richard A. Smith, M.D.
Richard A. Smith, M.D. is the medical director and founder of the Center for Neurologic Study and is also one of the founders of Coordinated Clinical Research. Since completing his neurology residency at Stanford University, Dr. Smith has been involved in both laboratory and clinical research resulting in publication in numerous medical and scientific journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Neurology, Annals of Neurology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and many others. Dr Smith has edited two books, the first dealing with Interferon and the second with
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. In addition to his many publications, Dr Smith has been issued numerous US patents based on discoveries made at CNS by Dr. Smith and his colleagues. These
have resulted in the creation of Nuedexta which was approved by the FDA in 2010 for the treatment of emotional lability associated with neurological disorders. From 1999 to 2006, Dr. Smith was a Skaggs Clinical Scholar (Scripps Research Institute) and a Visiting Scholar at the University of California. His recent research focuses on the development of novel therapies directed toward the treatment of ALS and Kindred neurological disorders.
